The Kenya Ceramic Project is an exciting new international health pilot project aimed at introducing innovative ceramic water filters and high efficiency wood burning stoves to rural areas of Kenya. Close to half of Kenyans do not have access to clean, safe drinking water. Many, due to deforestation and weather changes, struggle to find fuel for cooking stoves. With the help of local and international NGOs, potters in these areas will be trained to make the filters and stoves, in the hopes of increasing access to clean water and more efficient use of available fuels. The project started in 2007 and is led by students and alumni from the University of Alberta and International Health Initiatives by Medical Students (IHIMS).
